B1050 by Longstanton to be closed over two (or three) weekends in August    15 July, 2015

Earlier plans for 20 mid-week overnight closures have been changed, and the B1050 will now be completely closed for two (or perhaps three) entire weekends during August.

Extensive works are needed to tie in the new section of road at the new Northstowe junction with the existing road which was constructed to a lower standard. This work will involve the removal of approximately 80m of the existing road at the two tie-in points and its replacement with enhanced full-depth construction.

This work cannot be done in overnight-sized chunks, so the road will have to be completely closed to vehicles:

From 2000hrs on Friday 14th August 2015 to 0500 on Monday 17th August 2015

From 2000hrs on Friday 21st August 2015 to 0500 on Monday 24th August 2015

The following weekend of 28th – 31st August (Bank Holiday weekend) has also been reserved for possible closure if the work cannot be completed on the two previous weekends.

The closure will be between the roundabout just north of Longstanton and a point just south of the Guided Busway Park & Ride entrance. (People will still be able to access the Guided Busway from the Willingham side of the works.)

Pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to use the existing footway/cycleway through the roadworks during the closures, although there may be some localised diversions at times.

Diversions for ‘through’ traffic will be posted at the Bar Hill and Earith junctions, with other signage directing local traffic around the closed section of road. Signs will be posted two weeks before the first weekend closure.
