Boundary Commission's review of Cambridgeshire Divisions    20 June, 2015

The Boundary Commission is currently looking at Cambridgeshire County Divisions to see if any changes are needed to equalise the numbers of electors voting for each County Councillor. They have been consulting the various public bodies in the County for their views, and Over PC felt that the current Willingham Division (Willingham, Over and Longstanton) needed to change.

We prepared a submission, in conjunction with Swavesey PC, that would have grouped Willingham, Over, Swavesey and Fen Drayton together, since we felt that Longstanton’s future would be increasingly wrapped up with Northstowe, and that the four parishes in the proposed division had much in common.

The Boundary Commission’s draft proposals dismissed our suggestion (and completely overlooked Swavesey’s submission), proposing instead a new “Northstowe and Over” Division consisting of Northstowe, Longstanton, Oakington & Westwick and Over. (Willingham would then be grouped with Rampton and Cottenham.)

We considered this to be illogical and ill-conceived, and submitted a strong rebuttal of the proposal.

The Boundary Commission is due to publish its final recommendations on 29th September.
