Longstanton Road to be closed throughout July and August    26 June, 2014

Gravel Bridge is going to be demolished and rebuilt during the summer, meaning that Longstanton Road will be closed for 9 weeks from 30th June 2014.

The parapets were damaged several years ago, and the repairs have at long last been arranged. Unfortunately the new bridge is going to be cast on-site, meaning that the work will take much longer than if precast beams had been used. The County Council hasn't provided any reasoning for this decision, but work is scheduled to start on 30th June and it means that the road will be closed throughout July and August.

To add insult to injury, we have also been notified that Willingham Road will be closed for resurfacing on Saturday 11th July (or thereabouts, depending on the weather), leaving just one route in or out of the village (via Swavesey). The Parish Council has pointed out the extreme inconvenience that this combined closure will cause - presumably the works were commissioned by different departments that didn't check to see if the dates were appropriate.
